RECIPE GYROS SANDWICH

Recipe for the typical Gyros Sandwich you can get all over these days. This is not the typical Greek variant where the sandwich is a variety of stuff like fries, tomato, yoghurt, onions, etc. on/in a pita.

Sandwich dishes from Greece for 4 persons

Ingredients

  • 1 pnd pork loin, in thin strips
  • 4 tbsp oliveoil
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • 1 cucumber pealed and minced/grated and drained
  • 1/2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dill, minced
  • 4 large pitas, try to get real Greek ones or get a 'thick' tortilla
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

Preparation

Marinate meat in lemon juice, garlic and oregano for a few hours.

Mix yoghurt, cucumber and dill for a Tzatziki bring to taste with salt and pepper.

Preheat oven to 220/450F and roast meat for about 10 minutes until done. Serve on/in the pita with onion and tzatziki.

For the Greek touch add fries, tomato cubes, peppers, etc.
